SHOW NOTES: JOYFUL ART OF BUSINESS: “RECIPROCITY! Is it REQUIRED for Professional Success?”
This episode is part of our JOYFUL ART OF BUSINESS™ series wherein
we explore how to combine the positive benefits of our professional
endeavors (“business”) with the overall positive emotional return
on our efforts (“joy”). Our episode topic is, “RECIPROCITY! Is it
REQUIRED for Professional Success?”
This show brings this song lyric to mind, “Tell me who I have to be
to get some reciprocity.” (Song: Ex-factor, Album: The Miseducation
Of Lauryn Hill, Artist: Lauryn Hill, Songwriters: SCOTT, THOMAS
WRIGHT / HILL, LAURYN N.)
Definition of Reciprocity:
“: a situation or relationship in which two people or groups agree
to do something similar for each other, to allow each other to have
the same rights, etc. : a reciprocal arrangement or
relationship”
Reciprocity. (n.d.). Retrieved July 5, 2014,
from http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/reciprocity
Bottom Line: If you actions are not reciprocated, STOP. WAIT. If
your actions are never reciprocated, that shows you that you have
to recalibrate your choices. Either
give voluntarily with no expectation of being treated in the same
manner in return, or cease to do more than the minimum required by
the relationship and circumstances. DO NOT GIVE AND THEN GROW
ENRAGED THAT YOU ARE NOT TREATED WELL IN RETURN. You chose this
unbalanced relationship.
